Australian quintet Mermaid Avenue have just released their fourth album, Jacarandas, which is a ten-song collection blending alt-country, indie rock, folk, and Americana. The record showcases frontman Peter Clarke’s most confident songwriting yet, with lyrics reflecting memory, ambition, ageing, and vivid character sketches.

The Brisbane band’s rich, layered arrangements combine electric and acoustic guitars, lap steel, keys, and harmonies, creating a warm, immersive sound. Recorded by James See and mixed by Jason Millhouse, the album highlights years of musical collaboration. Guest fiddler Melinda Coles adds a haunting touch on the closing track, Boy in the Mirror. With every track pre-released as singles, in the past few years, Jacarandas is both cohesive and deeply engaging.
