New Orleans songwriter Daphne Parker Powell has just released her new single and video, Speak No Evil, which is a striking preview of her forthcoming fifth album, The Death of Cool, arriving May 22. Guided by producer Jimbo Mathus and shaped by engineer Mike Napolitano, the record gathers a powerhouse circle of Crescent City, Mississippi, and Muscle Shoals players.

This includes Preservation Hall’s Wendell and Caroline Brunious, Charlie Halloran, Brent Rose, Kirk “Bowie” Russell, and members of Squirrel Nut Zippers. Across ten tracks, Daphne blends bold horn charts, gritty Southern guitar, and upright bass into her shadowy, poetic storytelling. The result is a swampy, dance-ready torch folk sound that questions fading counterculture myths while reaching for sincerity and human connection.
